The Objectives of Hong Kong Charity Birdman Flying Competition
The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong has co-organized with Hong Kong Aviation Club Foundation to launch the “Flying Without Boundary” project since 2007. The project is aimed at promoting the knowledge and culture of aviation to the general public and establishing a common platform for young people to share the joy and fun of aviation.. The ultimate goal is to maintain the sustainable development of aviation movement in Hong Kong.
“Hong Kong Charity Birdman Flying Competition” is one of the activities in the project. Through competition, contestants can build up their confidence, develop their potential and creativity. Besides, donation is sought to fund opportunities to different vulnerable groups to experience the enjoyment of aviation. Apart from funding aviation related activities, some of the raised funds is spent on purely charity work like supporting aftercare service for victims of Sichuan Earthquake and its reconstruction work in 2008.

All net proceeds of the event will contribute to the flying fund of the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Aviation Club Foundation to offer flying experience to the socially disadvantaged groups of Hong Kong. Both of the organisations are registered charitable institutions under section 88 of Inland Revenue Ordinance of Hong Kong.
