What is Birdman Flying Competition?

The Hong Kong Charity Birdman Flying Competition, launched in 2007, is a first-ever charity flying competition with the use of human-powered flying machines in Hong Kong and it’s now in its third year. This event is jointly organised by the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Aviation Club Foundation which combines fun, excitement and high technological innovation at the highest level. To pursuit their flying dream, contestants of the Youth Group and Open Group dress up from innovative to silly costumes that assist their flights and launch off the Blake Pier into the sea. Alternately, the contestants of Mini Birdman’s pioneering costume will be presented on stage. Awards will be given to all of the winners.

History of the Birdman Flying Competition

The Birdman Flying Competition has been organised in Southern England since 70s, the 10 meters’ running stage was used for the competition. Nowadays, this competition is launched in different countries such as Germany, the United States, Australia, Ukraine, Japan and also China. The UK record set in 2009 is 99.87 m.
